There are several platforms that may list volunteer opportunities and connect volunteers with local organizations.

  • United Way of Frederick County's JustServe Volunteer Center

    Each affiliated volunteer project range from skilled volunteers for United Way’s VITA (Volunteers in Tax Assistance) program to serving at a local food kitchen, from the Stuff the Bus school supply drive to serving at a local mental health nonprofit, or from volunteering at Day of Action to providing rides to those in need.
Service Clubs

Many cities have local service clubs that offer community engagement opportunities, such as Rotary Clubs.

  • Rotary Club of Frederick

    The Rotary Club of Frederick uses service to change the lives of others within the Frederick community, with current initiatives ranging from renovating unsafe homes to supporting at-risk children in the international community.

  • The Kiwanis Club of Frederick.

    We are volunteers changing the world through service to children and to the needy and disadvantaged of our community. As examples, our members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, recognize youth accomplishments, and assist the handicapped. We also develop youth as leaders and raise funds for the benefit of local non-profits that share our goal of helping children as well as the less fortunate.

    To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation.

  • Frederick Optimist Club

    We aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world.
Mutual Aid & Grassroots Networks

Many communities rely on grassroots and informal networks to meet urgent needs. There may be opportunities to get involved through mutual aid networks, food distribution efforts, neighborhood action teams, or other groups that aren’t often listed on volunteer platforms.

  • Frederick Mutual Aid

    Frederick Mutual Aid is a space for people in the Frederick area to help meet each other’s needs and can be used as a space to request or give practical support to others within the Frederick community.
Prominent Organizations

Often prominent organzations rely on their widespread recognition rather than posting on volunteer recruiting websites.

  • City of Frederick Maryland Community Table Program

    The Community Table Program provides dinner, seven nights a week, 365 days a year from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to anyone in need of a hot, nutritious meal.

    Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from approximately 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. to set-up and serve meals (we have a paid cook during the week) and then to clean up the dishes and kitchen area after the meal is finished. Weekday volunteers usually sign-up to work the same evening (e.g., Monday evenings) either every week or every other week.

  • City of Frederick Maryland Food Bank Program

    The Food Bank Program, operated by the Department of Housing and Human Services (HHS), provides a three- to five-day supply of food to individuals and families facing economic hardship.

    Volunteers are needed to:

    • Sort food and re-stock the food bank shelves
    • Hand out groceries to families using the food bank
    • Perform light maintenance (wiping down shelves, recycling boxes, etc

  • Frederick Health

    Each month, hundreds of caring individuals come to Frederick Health Hospital to volunteer. They assist patients who are arriving at, and departing from the hospital, greet and direct visitors, staff the Gift Shop or the Select Seconds Thrift Shop, deliver flowers and reading material, and so much more. And while it may appear they are helping others by volunteering, they are also helping themselves.
