| About | The Great Pocomoke Fair is one of the oldest fairs on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, with a history that dates back to the late 19th century. First held in 1901, the fair was originally organized as an agricultural event to showcase the region’s farming achievements, livestock, and produce. The fair quickly became a major community event, celebrating the rich agricultural heritage of Pocomoke City and the surrounding areas. The Pocomoke Fairgrounds were established to host the fair, and over the years, it expanded from a small local gathering into a larger event that drew participants and visitors from across the Delmarva Peninsula. Traditionally, the fair featured livestock competitions, horse races, crop displays, and various contests that reflected the region’s strong agricultural roots. As time passed, the Great Pocomoke Fair evolved to include more modern attractions such as carnival rides, games, live entertainment, food vendors, and family-friendly activities. However, it still retains its traditional agricultural focus with livestock shows, 4-H competitions, and displays of farm equipment, all of which are central to the event’s rural charm. |
