| Mission | Our mission is to inspire children to excel in chess while cultivating a sense of social responsibility, blending top-tier chess education with impactful service to create well-rounded, compassionate leaders. We aim to teach strategic thinking and competitive skills through classes, camps, and tournaments, while channeling the enthusiasm of our students into philanthropy that supports local and global communities. By integrating chess with service learning, we strive to empower youth to make a difference, having donated over $185,000 to charities through our Chess Without Borders initiative.

| About | Who We Are: We are Shulman Chess, a nonprofit chess school founded by Grandmaster Yury Shulman in Barrington, Illinois, dedicated to advancing chess education and fostering social good through our unique Chess Without Borders program. Led by Yury, a U.S. Chess Champion and Olympiad medalist, alongside a team of skilled instructors and student volunteers, we’ve grown from a small chess club started by 9-year-old Rishi Sethi into an award-winning organization recognized by figures like Senator Barack Obama and the State of Illinois. Our community spans the Chicago area and beyond, uniting young players, families, and supporters in a shared passion for chess and philanthropy, with a legacy of over 100,000 volunteer hours and transformative projects worldwide. |
