Volunteer in Bayou Outdoor Learning and Discovery

Facilitate presentation of nature topics for youth groups- schools, scouts,
homeschools, traveling camps; assist in facilitation of adult programs- Florida Master Naturalist
Program (FMNP) and teacher workshops (PLT, Project WILD and WET, etc.); lead tours for guided
day and night paddle trips as well as night hikes. (Note that this is where our program fees are
generated and volunteer need is greatest.)
Qualifications: The preferred volunteer will have previous experience working with children,
teaching experience a plus.
Training: All potential educator volunteers will review the youth programs guide and activities
located in the vertical files in the Nature Center. Volunteers should become familiar with the
Camp Bayou Volunteer Handbook, materials, props and expectations for each nature topic. Volunteers will shadow a current educator, at least once, to see how the program runs and to become more familiar with the presentation of each topic.
