| About | Nā Hoaloha – Maui Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers (MIVC) was incorporated in 1995 as a 501 (C) (3) with the leadership provided by Sr. Roselani Enomoto, Director of the Catholic Church Office for Social Ministry. The agency began with the Maui County Office on Aging and twenty-one faith-based congregations working together to define how best to serve Maui’s kupuna. Nā Hoaloha’s (Loving Friends) mission in 1995 goes unchanged: “provide compassionate care to seniors 60 and older; and persons with disabilities, to help them remain independent and to enhance their quality of life.” Today, Nā Hoaloha continues its mission of compassion to action to more than 400 seniors throughout Maui County including Hana and the islands of Lana’i, and Moloka’i; exclusively with volunteers in service to others. Nā Hoaloha is focusing on building organizational capacity that is grounded in our mission and core values of social responsibility, quality services, and heartfelt compassion. We are developing a strategy to go deep and wide in Maui County to better serve our frail population. Our strategies include recruiting more volunteers and developing new and innovative programs. We are ever mindful that the fastest growing segment of the Maui community is the 85 plus; with a growth of 190% (as compared to 26% nationally). Nā Hoaloha participates in specialized trainings and conducts research to determine priority issues that may negatively impact older adults’ quality of life and threaten their independence. Our services will be even more critical as Maui’s oldest and frailest segment of the population continues to climb. Nā Hoaloha is committed to keeping our kupuna safe and in their own home for as long as possible. |
