The Shelby County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security’s mission provides administrative assistance to address the unique planning, equipment, training, and exercise needs of Shelby County and UASI region. Exercises play a vital role in preparedness. A well-designed exercise provides a low-risk environment to familiarize personnel with roles and responsibilities; foster meaningful interaction and communication across jurisdictions and organizations; assess and validate plans, policies, procedures, and capabilities; and identify strengths and areas for improvement. Exercises bring together and strengthen the whole community to prevent, protect against, mitigate, respond to, and recover from all hazards. Overall, exercises help the whole community address the priorities established by a jurisdiction’s and organization’s leaders; and evaluate progress towards meeting preparedness goals.
